i just heard from my dad about a case he has on hand now - he's prosecuting a lawyer for the law society.
and i am seriously appalled at the lawyer's behaviour.
lets take her name as C, since the name has to be protected for confidentiality.
:/
apparently she overcharges ALL her clients.

there was once that she charged this client $29,000 for a simple divorce procedure.
and by the time she got found out, the client has already (stupidly) paid her $17,000.
but the worst thing is, C charged the client so much because she thought her client's (soon-to-be ex) husband is hella rich, so she could make a huge killing.
in fact, the $17,000 the client paid her was borrowed from her family and friends. and after paying the $17,000, the client really couldn't afford anymore. and guess what C did?
she asked her client to apply for legal aid, or else.. "no money no talk"
so this came to the attention of the law society, and my dad knocked C's billing down to $5,000.
which means... she frigging overcharged her poor client by $24,000!

kns. how can a lawyer be so unscrupulous?
this is not the end of it.

she had another client who was, "quite pathetic", as quoted from my dad.
this client was about 50, but had all those arthritis and whatnot.
she went to C for some legal help.
C then charged her about $250,000!
ZOMG, innit?
after the client paid her about $200,000 (once again, through loans and all that), she couldn't afford to fork out anymore money.
C then let go of the case.
but this was worse than the previous one, BECAUSE C HASN'T EVEN STARTED DOING ANYTHING FOR THAT POOR LADY!
and now, according to my dad, that poor lady has started doing some small-scale karang guni "business" like collecting cardboard and selling them just to make a few bucks to feed herself.

i mean... this woman is a lawyer, how can she be so unscrupulous?
and how heartless and greedy can she get?
squeezing everyone dry just to benefit herself and get her wallet fat with cash.
people may put the blame on the clients, saying "walao, so stupid. you should have known her rates before consulting her what.."
BUT, it's sooo not their fault.
she's one freaking unstraightforward lawyer.
on her list of rates, she charges by time (e.g. $300/hour), but when her clients go to her..
she charges for every tiny thing, e.g. $1,500 for a filing, etc.

me thinks that the law society should just strip her of her lawyer title.
however, i heard that that is not so because they have NO CONCRETE EVIDENCE.
