i just watched singapore idol 2 finals.
before i say anything, please do allow me to drill into you that whatever i mention here, it's just my two cents worth. don't come after me attempting to murder me if you aren't happy with what i'm saying, ya? =)
hmm. i had loads to comment here while watching, not that i'm here, i've kinda forgotten almost everything i wanted to say. shows how unmemorable it was.

okay. this is the first time i've caught any episode of singapore idol 2. so, yeah.. i've no prior prejudice against any one of the finalists.
hady is definitely the better singer while jonathan has more star appeal, more charm.
of course, if this is really purely what it should be - a singing competition - hady will definitely win, however, this is, as selwyn says, more like "singapore marketable pop star", so.. i'm guessing that jonathan will win.

well, for the first round, the songs from the spectaculars, which they sang again.. i think it was merely mediocre. not impressive at all. and hell, i nearly fell asleep. =.=
haha. oh OH. and it's so obvious that they are advertising for 7-11.. what do you call that? erhm... AH! branded entertainment. the 7-11 big gulp cup was lying strategically beside ken lim while he was giving ALL his comments. *snorts*

and for the 2nd round (this will be the songs they chose from the given list k, not with jon's you give me wings).. hady was more wow. although dick commented on him going slightly off pitch... but it's okay, to my extremely untrained ears, he sounded great. as for jonathan... well.. he was great too, by his standards.

okay 3rd round - the original song created specially for them - "you give me wings". once again, hady reigned. though jonathan was not bad too. but still, his vocals definitely loses to hady's. i think that hady could get more out of the song, though jonathan claims that the song "inspired him" and yada yada.

which brings me to why i think he will win. cuz he has better pr skills. he had to insert such subtle (okay, not-so-subtle) "i'm a sincere guy" comments when ever he speaks. after florence's comment on his last song, he had to get all "oh i chose a local song because i wanted to be able to PROUDLY sing one right here", and after his you gave me wings it was "yes, i can totally relate to it, it inspires me greatly" kinda comment. enough already, we get your point, okay? hady on the other hand, can't really talk at all.. it seemed as though he was wrecking his brains for something to say whenever it comes to a point when it's necessary for him to speak. though he got extremely hyper at the end of the whole thing, smiling like a goofus and jumping around.
look at this combination! one talks to much, and the other can't talk at all. quite lamentable.

but you can tell that the judges and maybe even the emcees think that jon will/should win.
no matter what, jon's name is always mentioned first. and while the judges gave comments, they always give "you are a good singer" kinda comments to hady, and "you have star quality" kinda comments to jon. and that jacintha person made a rather major slip-up "you're the idol" or something. can't really remember. but anyway, these understated hints made up to alot.

well, results are out tomorrow.. we shall see! =)
